The Fernley High School volleyball team easily dispatched three Northern 3A West opponents in crossover matches last week, beating the Debbie Smith CTE Academy, Wooster and Sparks in three sets each.
On Sept. 2, Justice Martell Artiaga had 11 kills, Trista Menesini added six and Emma Masters put down five and had eight assists as they beat Smith 25-7, 25-14, 25-15. Alauna Escartin handed out 13 assists.
On Sept. 3, the Vaqueros beat Wooster 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 by dominating at the net. The Vaqueros had 37 total kills, compared to just six for the Colts. Lillianna Young had nine kills for Fernley, Menesini and Artiaga each had eight and Masters added six, taking advantage of good passing from Escartin, who had 26 assists.
Fernley finished the week with a 25-10, 25-9, 25-10 win over Sparks on Sept. 5. Menesini led the way with 10 kills, Artiaga and Young each had eight. Masters set it all up with 21 assists.
This week the Vaqueros were scheduled to play t Incline on Wednesday. They host South Tahoe Friday, then they open league play with a match at home against Lowry next Thursday.
