An inmate in the Lyon County Jail in Yerington died after being found unresponsive in his cell on Thursday.
Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope said 70-year-old Theodore Hamel was transported to South Lyon Medical Center after being found unresponsive in his cell. Lifesaving efforts were performed in the jail and at South Lyon Medical Center before Hamel was pronounced dead.
Pope said the initial investigation indicates the death was medically related and there were no signs of foul play or suicide.
Investigations are being conducted by the Nevada Division of Investigations and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Coroner.
Hamel was arrested Aug. 10 on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
