Healthy Communities August 14 meeting focuses on rural hospitals and access to healthcare

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ August 14, 2025 public meeting includes presentations on Nevada Care Connection, Access to Healthcare Network, and Nevada Rural Hospital Partners.

The Thursday meeting begins at 9 am at the Silver Springs Community Center and includes breakfast and coffee. The Community Center is located on the left side of the Senior Center building at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs, NV 89429.

Attendees are asked to park on the side of the building or on the street to preserve the parking in front of the building for seniors.

Guest speakers Bri Konz and Jessica Solis will explain how Nevada Care Connection, in conjunction with Access to Healthcare Network, assists Nevadans. NVCC/MAP Outreach and Community Partner Manager Bri Konz will give a brief history of and the scope of Nevada Care Connection (NVCC) and the Medicare Assistance Program (MAP). The NVCC team helps connect people to any type of community-based support for seniors, those with disabilities, veterans, caregivers, their families or anyone in need of help. This includes any sort of application assistance as well as long-term case management and prescription assistance. The MAP team of certified Medicare counselors provide unbiased support to beneficiaries regarding all things Medicare, including assistance with enrollments, general questions, applying for Medicare Savings Programs, assisting with cases of Medicare error, fraud or abuse, and more.

Jessica Solis, AHN Outreach Coordinator, will provide updates for other programs under Access to Healthcare Network (AHN). The overall purpose of AHN “is to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals by providing and expanding access to services that address the clinical and social determinants of health. In addition to providing direct service to over 170,000 uninsured, underinsured, and low-income Nevada residents since its inception in 2006 AHN also acts as an intermediary organization, through its model of community ‘Shared Responsibility’, to support, strengthen, and integrate the health care and social service delivery system and stakeholders.”

Blayne Osborn of Nevada Rural Hospital Partners (NRHP) will give an overview of the alliance of small and rural hospitals. The partnership was “founded on the idea that we are stronger standing together than individually. In 1987, with temporary funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Hospital Based Rural Healthcare Program, the group established a formal consortium intended to focus on solutions to the issues and challenges facing rural hospitals...NRHP offers a variety of programs, services, and initiatives designed to ensure the viability of the facilities we work with by advocating at the legislative and regulatory levels, reducing cost, generating savings, enhancing quality, sharing resources, and expanding the use of technology.”

HCC Meets Every Other Month: The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition meets every other month at the Silver Springs Community Center at 9am.
