Veterans Coalition honors seven during July unaccompanied service

The Nevada Veterans Coalition recognized seven veterans on July 24 during its monthly Unaccompanied Service.

The services represented were three from the U.S. Army and two each from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force.

Serenko said every gravestone at NNVMC tells a story to the thousands of visitors who visit the cemetery during the year.

The Nevada Veterans Coalition conducts monthly "unaccompanied services" at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery (NNVMC) in Fernley. These services are specifically for veterans who passed away without family or whose families chose not to have a full military honors service. The services, which include a full military honors ceremony, are held on the 4th Thursday of each month.

Each ceremony also includes a 3-round volley and the playing of Taps. The Patriot Guard Riders paraded the colors from the columbarium wall to the pavilion to begin each service.

Those recognized included the following:
Army — Specialist 5 James Slusser, 1st Lt. Jack Cooney, and Specialist 4 Gerald Murphy.
Navy — Fire Control Technician 3rd Class Michael Sessa and Aviation Electronics Airman Robert Detrick.
Air Force — Airman Robert Crapo and Sgt. Wilfred Adam.
