Assemblyman Ken Gray announced that he has been appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as Senior Advisor to the National Cemetery Administration at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Gray said he will be officially sworn in later this August.

“While this new role means I can no longer serve as your Assemblyman for District 39, it has truly been the honor of a lifetime to represent you over the past two terms,” Gray said in a social media post.

Gray served in the U.S. Air Force from 1987 to 2013, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He went on to serve as a Lyon County Commissioner from 2017 to 2022 before being elected to the Nevada Assembly, where he has served in two regular sessions and two special sessions. He was a member of the Health and Human Services, Judiciary, and Revenue committees.

“I’m not disappearing—just taking a temporary step away from Nevada politics to once again serve my fellow veterans, our country, and our President in a new capacity,” Gray said. “Thank you all for your trust, support, and friendship. I look forward to what lies ahead—and I’ll be seeing you again soon.”
