Fernley girls avenge loss to Spring Creek

Fernley girls avenge loss to Spring Creek
Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Fernley High School girls basketball team avenged one loss Friday night, and will be going after another payback this afternoon.

The Vaqueros beat Spring Creek 54-37 Friday night, and are playing today at 1 p.m. at Elko.

Grace DeLeon lead Fernley with 12, Ali Conder added 11 and Jaiden Sullivan rounded out the double digits with 10. The rest of the scoring was pretty balanced with three other girls scoring between 6 and 8 points.

“It was not a well played game,” coach John Rogers said. “Very sloppy on both sides but we played really well on defense and got a lot of transition opportunities off turnovers.”

The Vaqueros had lost 34-33 at home to Spring Creek on Jan. 6. The next night they lost 75-69 to Elko.

Friday’s win moved the Vaqueros to 7-6 in league play.

Rogers said he was happy with the team’s performance overall.

“We attacked the basket well but we struggled at the free throw line. “We played well together. I thought the girls were reading passing lanes good defensively and looking up the court for their teammates in transition.”

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
