It was a quiet morning at Fernley Estates Senior Living when a little bit of magic pirouetted in.
Thanks to the Fernley Performing Arts program and a group of generous young dancers, one resident’s lifelong dream came true. Miss Mary, a beloved member of the senior living community, had always dreamed of being in a ballet performance. Now in her later years, stepping into a theater wasn’t possible so the ballet came to her.
Several ballet students volunteered their time and talent to stage a special performance , fulfilling Miss Mary's "Ageless Dream" with a performance of 12 songs. They began with “You Will Be Found” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen and included “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Disney’s Pinocchio, The Sound of Music and finished off with “Flowers.”
“It was an honor to fulfill Miss Mary’s ‘Ageless Dream,’” Laken Boonlua said in a social media post. “She was teary-eyed the whole time and absolutely loved it.”
The dancers, dressed in soft pastels and warm smiles, twirled and leaped through a short program, bringing the grace of the stage to the heart of the care home. Residents gathered in the common room, some tapping along to the music, others simply soaking in the joy.
For the students, the performance was more than just a chance to dance, it was a powerful lesson in kindness, service, and the joy of sharing their art.
The Fernley Performing Arts program continues to find new ways to connect with the community, bringing music, dance, and delight wherever they go. Their mission is provide quality age-appropriate instruction to inspire and uplift all ages to express and share the art of dance and music and focus on each individual student and to help increase their love of dance, music and performance.
And for Miss Mary, the dream didn’t just come true, it danced right into her heart.
