Baseball: Majors All-stars win District 3 championship

By Robert Perea

The High Desert Little League Majors All-Starts beat Silverada Little League of Dayton in the deciding game on June 24 to win the District 3 Tournament in Winnemucca.

The team had reached the championship by beating White Pine, Hawthorne and Silverada, while Silverada came back through the loser’s bracket to reach the championship. Silverada needed to win twice to win the championship, and forced the deciding “if-necessary” game with a 3-2 win

With the game tied 2-2, Silverada scored the deciding run in the bottom of the fifth inning to force the extra game. High Desert had tied the 2-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Ayden P had two hits and scored a run for High Desert. Jon L and Grayson B had the only other hits in the game for High Desert.

In the deciding game, High Desert scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to break a 2-2 tie and held on for the win. Greysen K singed in the first run of the rally, two more scored on a single by Asher K. Greysen K and Asher K each had two hits and two runs batted in, while Garrett C pitched all six innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

The championship qualified High Desert for the State Tournament July 23-27 in Reno.
