Fire district approves 2025-26 budget

By Robert Perea

After previously saying the district has bailed itself out of a financial deficit, the North Lyon County Fire Protection District is submitting a final budget to the state that backs up that assertion.

The district’s Board of Directors on May 28 approved the district’s final budget for 2025-26 fiscal year. The budget includes total general fund revenues of $4,303,367, plus a beginning fund balance of $388,363, for total available resources of $4,691,703. Total expenditures are expected to be $4,054,390, leaving the district with a projected ending fund balance of $637,340.

“It was an absolute pleasure to be able to work to navigate through the budget that we were in with an expected 10-yard correction time and we’re able to do it in a year,” Fire Chief Brian Bunn said.

In the ambulance fund, the district’s final budget projects $1,020,000 in operating revenue and $500,000 in nonoperating revenues, along with total operating expenses of $1,497,860, creating net income of $22,140.

Paul Murphy thanked acting Chairman of the Board of Directors, thanked Bunn and office manager Kasey Miller for their work in digging the district out of a massive hole.

“It’s been a big give, I think, on a lot of people’s parts here,” Murphy said.
