The 4x800 relay team of Angelo Mulei, Andrew Peterson, Kael Paz and Joe Perkins posted Fernley’s best finish in last week’s Northern 3A Regional meet.

The Fernley High School track team qualified eight boys and two girls for this week’s 3A State Track & Field Championships. 

Angel Pochop in the discus and Justice Martell-Artiaga in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump will represent the Fernley girls, while the boys 4x800 and 4x200 relay teams as well as individuals Joe Perkins, Donquitas Brittain, Keeshawn Love and Bodie Parsons will compete for the boys. 

The Vaqueros competed at the Northern 3A Regional Meet at Douglas High School last Friday and Saturday. 

The top performance of the weekend for the Vaqueros was the 4x800 relay, where the team of Andrew Peterson, Kael Paz, Angelo Mulei and Joe Perkins finished second with a time of 8 minutes, 20 seconds. 

Perkins qualified in two individual events as well, finishing third in the 800 meters with a tie of 2:03.42 and fourth in the 3200 with a time of 10:24.93. 

Brittain and Love will both be competing in two events. They both ran in the 4x200 relay, along with Elijah Perez and Jayden Esparza, finishing fourth with a time of 1:33.94. 

Brittain also finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.89, and Love was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.55. 

Parsons earned his trip to state with a throw of 139-01 to place fourth in the discus. 

For the girls, Martell-Artiaga placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.10 and fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4-10. Pochop was fourth in the discus with a throw of 99-4. 

The 1A, 2A and 3A State Championships will be held this Friday and Saturday in Moapa Valley.
