On Monday, May 20th, Western Nevada College (WNC) celebrated its 53rd commencement class with a commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. in Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park.

Lyon County high schools had 34 high school seniors who are graduating with two diplomas this spring.

In early June, they will receive their high school diplomas, and yesterday, they also received their Associates Degree. The dual credit is made possible through Jump Start - a dual enrollment program with local high schools and Western Nevada College. The students spent the last two years of high school enrolled in high school and/or college classes.

Lyon County School District was a pioneer district in bringing this dual enrollment program to high school students in Nevada and has since graduated more than 200 students with a college and high school diploma.
