Two killed, I-80 westbound closed after fatal crash

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Interstate 80 westbound is closed at USA Parkway and is expected to remain closed for several hours due to a fatal crash.

At approximately 6:49 p.m., the Nevada State Police responded to a crash at I-80 westbound and USA Parkway.

Two vehicles are reported to be involved in the crash - a sedan with three occupants and a commercial motor vehicle with one occupant.

Both vehicles were traveling on I-80 westbound near USA Parkway.

The State Police said for reasons not known at this time, the sedan struck the rear of the commercial vehicle.  The driver and one passenger in the sedan were pronounced dead on-scene. One passenger in the sedan was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the commercial vehicle remained on-scene and is cooperating with authorities.

Further information will be provided following the preliminary investigation.
