Fernley girls wrestlers win Sparks tournament, boys place 10th in Chico

Led by four individual champions and the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler, the Fernley High School girls wrestling team won the Sparks Invitational last weekend. The boys team, meanwhile, placed 10th at the Joe Rios Invitational in Chico and the JV team had four medalists in Sparks as well.

For the girls team, senior captain Shaylee Galvin was an individual champion and was voted the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler. She was joined atop the medal stand with fellow individual champions Sophie Workman, Allison Borden and Ruby Reese. Sherrah Muhammad placed second, April Mendoza finished third and Nadera Muhammad finished fourth.

For the boys team, Nathan Pritchard had a third place finish and Camron McMackin placed sixth in Chico.

JV medal winners at Sparks were champion Anthony Robles, Calvin Bacon in fourth place, Kaden Paredes and Leiland Midkiff in fifth place and Demery Alldredge in sixth place.
