Fernley volleyball team claims first league win

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

After playing what coach Zach Wilhelm called their best game of the season last Thursday night, the Fernley High School volleyball team beat Lowry Saturday to claim its first league win of the season.

The Vaqueros beat Lowry in four sets, 25-18, 26-24, 22-25, 25-18. Kendall Arnaud led the Vaqueros with 24 serves, Sage Jackson had 14 kills and Jennica Stephens made 20 digs.

The win improved the Vaqueros to 8-7 overall and 1-4 in the Northern 3A East, where they are currently in fifth place. The top four teams in the East make the region tournament.

“Just really looking forward to the second half and get some revenge,” Wilhelm said. “Hoping for the best and a strong end to the season.”

The Vaqueros had come up short in Fallon, against the team that’s currently undefeated in league play, but each set went down to the final serve, 23-25, 24-26, 25-23, 23-25.

“Fernley played our best game yet but struggled to finish in each set,” Wilhelm said. “It was a close and exciting game and we are ready for the rematch in Fernley.”

Jackson and Hunter Lyle each had 10 kills to lead the Vaqueros, while Marli O’Neill had 34 digs and Alauna Escartin passed for 15 assists.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
