Fernley volleyball aims to snap 3-match losing streak at North Valleys Thursday

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

After winning six of seven matches in the Yerington Tournament to open the season on Aug. 18, the Fernley High School volleyball team has lost three consecutive matches in the Northern 3A.

The Vaqueros will try to snap that streak when they visit North Valleys Thursday night.

Fernley is 0-2 in the Northern 3A East, having lost to Spring Creek and Elko. Conversely, North Valleys has won four of their five nontournament matches, including two in a row, over Wooster and Hug.

The Vaqueros have had nearly two weeks off since those losses to Spring Creek and Elko and one before that to South Tahoe, giving them time to regroup as the schedule begins to get busier.

“With recent changes to the 3A North Region we unfortunately had to open our season with an incredibly tough schedule,” coach Zach Wilhelm said. “These losses showed us where we need to grow, and I know that we have what it takes to finish the season with a winning record. There will be no easy wins but if we continue to work hard and be family, we will win.”

After facing North Valleys, the Vaqueros will get back into Northern 3A East play at Dayton next Tuesday.
