State Police identifies victim in May 22 fatal crash on I-80

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Nevada State Police has identified the person killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 May 22 that closed both directions of travel for several hours.

According to the state Police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2000 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on I-80 near mile marker 25. For unknown reasons, the vehicle went off the roadway from the travel lane and entered the right dirt area, striking a paddle maker. The Ford re-entered into the travel lanes, overturning and striking the guardrail and ended up on its wheels in the eastbound travel lane.

The driver, Kennet Upp, 30-year-old, from Reno, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died May 23.

Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West M.I.R.T (Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team) is investigating this crash. This marks the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol – Northern Command West 15th fatal crash and 16th fatality for 2023.
