Fernley Republican Women announce three scholarship awards

The Fernley Republican Women has awarded three $1,000 scholarships to local graduates.

One scholarship was presented to Josie McMahand on Silver Stage High School’s Senior Awards Night, May 24. Josie will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno for her bachelor’s degree, then graduate school to become an optometrist.

Josie has a weighted GPA of 4.37 and at the same time earned her Associate of Arts degree at Western Nevada College.

Anna Barrus


The second scholarship was presented to Anna Barrus on Fernley High

School’s Senior Awards Night, May 31.  Anna will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, then attending medical school to study internal medicine or obstetrics and gynecology.

She has a weighted GPA of 4.16 and also earned her Associates of Science degree at Western Nevada College.

Mikyla Durham


The Margaret Spooner Memorial Scholarship was presented to Mikyla Durham on Fernley High School’s Senior Awards Night, May 31. Mikyla will attend Truckee Meadows Community College majoring in nursing with a goal of becoming a neonatal nurse. Mikyla maintained a GPA of 4.0 while working at Big R and the Purple Door preschool.
