Both Fernley relays place sixth at State swim meet

The Fernley High School relay team placed sixth in both of its events at the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships last Saturday at the Carson City Aquatic Center.

Zach Schaeffer, Brady Garrett, Matt Jones and Nate Mauk were sixth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.00, which was 1.24 seconds faster than their regional qualifying time.

They also beat their qualifying time by a half second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, posting the sixth-place finish in 1:46.67.

Individually, Schaeffer also placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke 1:06.32, beating his qualifying time by .4 seconds. Schaeffer also qualified for State in the 200 individual medley, but was disqualified.
