Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Wednesday updagte:

The Mineral County Sheriff's Office reported that Katherine Poland was found dead Wednesday morning at Walker Lake. MCSO said at 7:38 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a dead female at Walker Lake. The person found was identified as Poland. MCSO said no signs of foul play were found at the scene.

Original story

A Mineral County woman who last spoke with her family May 6 is missing and may have been last seen in the Fernley area.

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office said Katherine Marie Poland told her son on the phone she was heading home to Hawthorne. She had been working in the area of Battle Mountain. Her last day at the site was May 2, and MCSO said she is currently not on a job, according to her employer.

Poland’s only form of communication is her iPad when she has Wi-Fi. She is believed to be living out of her vehicle, a burgundy 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan, with Nevada license plates 112ZNS.

Poland is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 125 pounds with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Anyone who has any information is asked to call the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office at (775) 945-2434 or Secret Witness at (775) 945-2500.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
