Fernley’s Holmes wins first league meet, Vaqueros second as a team

Fernley’s Jacob Holmes was the low scorer in Tuesday’s season-opening boys golf meet at the Dayton Valley Golf Course, leading the Vaqueros to a second-place finish.

Holmes shot 72, beating second-place Sean Molesworth of South Tahoe by 11 strokes.

Holmes finished last season placing seventh at the 3A State Meet, where the Vaqueros placed third as a team.

Tuesday, the Vaqueros shot a team total of 349 to finish four strokes behind South Tahoe, which won the meet with a team total of 345. Truckee was third with a total of 358.

Behind Holmes, Caden Stanger shot 85 for the Vaqueros, Noah Davis shot 87 and Mathew Young was the fourth scorer with a 105.
