Sheriff’s Office looking for volunteers for VIP program

Sheriff’s Office looking for volunteers for VIP program

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is in need of volunteers for its auxiliary patrol, commonly known as Volunteers in Policing.

No prior law enforcement experience is necessary.

VIP’s service all areas of Lyon County, but Ed Cook, the VIP event liaison, told the Fernley Rotary Club on Feb. 21 that  there are currently no VIP’s who live in the Fernley or Yerington areas. He said that means volunteers who live in Dayton must commute to Fernley or Yerington to conduct patrols, which limits the number of days in which patrols are available in those areas.

Services provided by VIPs include patrolling, house watches, serving civil papers, traffic control, special events, and VIN inspections.

For more information or to inquire about volunteering, contact VIP coordinator Larry DePaul at [email protected] or assistant coordinator Richard Jedlowski at [email protected] or call the Sheriff’s Office at (775) 463-6600 or the Fernley substation at (775) 575-3350.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
