Fernley’s Velasquez ties for 11<sup>th</sup> at State Golf Meet

Fernley’s Nadia Velasquez tied for 11th place at the 3A State Girls Golf Championships held Oct. 17 and 18 at Genoa Lakes Golf Course.

Velasquez shot a two-day score of 180 to tie with Emily Gent of Pahrump. They finished 24 strokes behind champion Giana Zinke of Douglas.

Douglas won the team championship with a total score of 665, with five players finishing in the top 10 overall.

Velasquez shot a 93 in the first round of the tournament, and dropped that to 87 in the second round.

She entered the tournament as the No.1 at-large qualifier from the Northern 3A with a season average of 94.8.
