Silverland Middle School working to eradicate bedbug infestation

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Silverland Middle School staff is working to eradicate a bedbug infestation on campus, assistant principal Tammie Moniz said in a letter emailed to parents Friday.

Several parents have contemplated keeping their students home because of the infestation, to prevent the possibility of bringing it home with them by bugs getting onto their clothing or backpacks.

In her letter, Moniz said Silverland Middle School officials and Lyon County School District officials are doing everything they can to eradicate this issue.

“These steps include bringing in a professional exterminator, following the direction of our Chief Nurse who is a 4-Year RN, following protocols from the Health Department, and extensive cleaning by custodial staff,” she wrote. “Our district and SMS staff need to be commended on how diligently they have handled this situation.”
