Commission appoints Haskin as interim county manager

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

As a special meeting Monday afternoon, the Lyon County Commission voted to appoint Andrew Haskin as the Interim County Manager, and to hold off on determining the process for searching for a permanent county manager.

Haskin has served Lyon County for the past year as the community development director. He has an extensive background in economic development, spending almost eight years with Northern Nevada Development Authority. Andrew is a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno with a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing. The motion to appoint Haskin as interim county manager was made by Commissioner Ken Gray and approved 5-0.

The Commissioners also deliberated the next steps to recruit and hire a permanent county manager. Among the topics of discussion were whether to advertise the position internally or conduct a national search, along with the possibility of hiring Haskin in the future as the permanent county manager based on his performance as interim and feedback from staff. The motion was made by Commissioner Wes Henderson to take no action at this time but the board reserved the right to bring the item back on future agendas.

The meeting video will be posted on the county’s YouTube Page. The agenda and backup information is available for review.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
