Fernley swimmers place 6th at State Meet

The Fernley High School swim team sent five boys to the 3A State Swim Meet in Las Vegas last week, and they came home with a sixth-place finish.

The Vaqueros scored 26 points as a team, finishing six points behind fifth place Sage Ridge. Truckee won the state championship with 125 points, and Damonte Ranch was second with 72.

The Vaqueros finished fourth in three of their four events, and sixth in the other. Individually, Caleb Mortenson finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.60, while Brodie Garrett was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.44.

The Fernley boys placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Zach Schaeffer, Mortenson, Brodie Garrett and Brady Garrett finishing with a time of 1:53.72, only .19 seconds out of third place.

The relay team of Sergio Potillo, Brady Garrett, Brodie Garrett and Mortenson finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
