Boys golf team places third at State Meet

With three players placing in the top 11, the Fernley High School boys golf team placed third at the 3A State Boys Golf Tournament at Mountain Falls Golf Course in Pahrump.

Jacob Holmes finished seventh other ball with a two-day score of 170, shooting 82 in the first round and 88 in the second. Noah Davis shot 86-85 to finish eighth at 171, Kaden Stanger shot 85-90 to place 11th with a total of 175 and Luke Stanger was Fernley’s fourth scorer with 95-107 to finish at 202 in 29th place.

The first day tournament, the Vaqueros fired a team score of 348 and were two shots back of second place Pahrump.

Day 2 the gap widened with the Vaqueros shooting a team score of 370.

Truckee won the meet with a team score of 674, with Pahrump second at 700 and Fernley third at 718.

The Vaqueros return their entire roster next season, having no seniors on this year’s team, and were led by two sophomores the entire year. Three of the Vaqueros were recognized on the all-conference list. Jacob Holmes and Noah Davis were 1st-team all-conference, and Kaden Stanger was 2nd-team all-conference.
