Radli wins boys shot put and discus, Parsons wins girls discus at State track meet

Fernley boys place 6^th, girls place 7^th

The throwing events have been the strength all season for the Fernley High School track team, and that held true last weekend at the 3A State Meet at Reed High School in Sparks.

Cameron Radli won the state championship in both the boys shot put and discus, with Tyler Slaughter second in both events, while Aurora Parsons won the girls discus and finished fourth in the shot put. They accounted for six of the eight medals the Fernley teams won.

In the throws Parsons, Radli, and Slaughter brought home 51 points between the three.

"Coach Bert Serrano did an amazing job coaching all of our Fernley throwers," head coach Todd Wright said.

Radli threw the shot put 52 feet, 10.5 inches and the discus 163-07 to win those events. Slaughter took second in both events with his throws of 51-8.75 in the shot put and 156-05 in the discus.

Aurora Parsons won the discus with her throw of 112-10, and placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 35-9.25.

Kiriann Johnson placed second in the pole vault with a school record of 10-6, three inches off the winning height.

Fernley’s other medal came in the Girls 4x800 relay, with Kensey Kreller, Sierra Sparkes, Karley Hodgden and Myla Bott finishing fourth in 10:24.93.

Other placers for the boys were Paz, fifth in the 3200 meters, with a time of 10:19.04; Connie Hunter, seventh in the 400, in 53.24; and the 4x800 relay team of Paz, Angelo Mulei, Lamar Woods and Hunter, fifth in 8:51.41.

For the girls, Evven Johnson finished fifth in the pole vault at 9 feet and Heaven Conner was sixth at 8-6; in the 400 Hodgden placed sixth in 1:03.24 and Bott was seventh in 1:03.81; Sierra Sparks placed seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:34.16; Kreller came in seventh in the 1600 in 5:50.40; the 4x400 relay team of Johnson, Kreller, Hodgden and Bott finished fifth in 4:20.42; and the 4x200 relay team of Camille Radli, Marissa Di Stefano, Naomi Wyatt and Johnson finished eighth in 1:55.29.

The boys finished sixth in the team standings, while the girls came in seventh.
