City Council sets special meeting to discuss hiring new city manager

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Fernley City Council has set a special meeting for net Wednesday, April 27 to determine the process for hiring a new city manager.

Mayor Roy Edgington called for the special meeting during the council’s April 20 meeting, after getting input from other council members that they want to work through the process to hire a city manager, rather than rush through the process. Edgington originally said he wanted to begin advertising for the position immediately and hold interviews in June.

The position will be open after May 6, when the resignation of current city manager Daphne Hooper becomes effective, She is leaving to take the position of Director of Community Indigenous Relations in the President’s Office at the University of Nevada, Reno.

City councilman Albert Torres said he would like to use an outside recruiter to help search for candidates. However, city attorney Brandi Jensen intervened, saying since the item wasn’t on the agenda, the council couldn’t discuss the hiring process. She said the council could vote to hold an emergency meeting, or that Edgington, as mayor, could call for a special meeting. Edgington then asked for the meeting to be scheduled at 5 p.m. net Wednesday, to give time for the proper agenda notification period.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
