Person killed in officer-involved shooting in Smith Valley

A person was killed in an officer involved shooting Monday afternoon in Smith Valley. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Dispatch received several reports of a person with a gun at 4:40 p.m. at Rosie’s Place Restaurant and Mini-Market. Deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Yerington Police Department and Troopers from the Nevada State Police responded to the scene, where the officer involved shooting occurred.

The person who was shot was pronounced dead on the scene and the law enforcement officer who was involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. The Nevada Division of Investigation in investigating the shooting. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the coroner’s investigation.

The identity of the person who was shot is being withheld until notification of next of kin,
