FRW fifth grade essay contest winners announced

The Fernley Republican Women presented its awards Nov. 15 and 16 to the winners of its essay contest for Fernley Intermediate School and Silver Stage Middle School fifth grade students.

The contest was a part of the FRW’s commitment to fostering Americanism and Literacy in local schools. Essays were to be 400-500 words long and were judged on content, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Winners received a $50 Amazon gift card for first place, a $30 Amazon gift card for second place and a $20 gift certificate to Steve’s Ice Cream in Fernley for third place.

FIS selected the topic “Why the U.S. Constitution is Important.” Prizes were awarded at a ceremony on Nov. 15: The first-place winner was Owen Parale, second place went to Lauren Magill and third place was awarded to Sophia Villaverde.

SSMS selected the topic “My Favorite Amendment to the Constitution and Why.” Prizes were awarded at a ceremony on Nov. 16: Yocelynn Hernandez-Burgara won first place, Hannah Chambers earned second place and Hunter Kelly took third place.

Fernley Republican Women is a group of women (and men as associate members) who share similar conservative values and ideals, and who are dedicated to increasing the influence and effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through political education and active political participation.
