Fernley enters regional volleyball tournament as East No. 1 seed

The Fernley High School volleyball team has gotten hot at the right time.

The Vaqueros beat Dayton in four sets last Thursday, their fourth consecutive win, to clinch the No. 1 seed for this weekend’s Northern 3A Region Tournament in Fallon with an 8-2 record in league play.

As a No. 1 seed, the Vaqueros get a bye into the semifinals, and they will play either Wooster, the West No. 2 seed, or Spring Creek, the East No. 3 at noon Saturday. Wooster and Spring Creek will meet at 5 p.m. Friday.

On the other side of the bracket, Dayton, the East No. 2 seed, will face South Tahoe the West No. 3, at 7 p.m. Friday, with that winner facing Truckee, the West No. 1 seed, at 1:45 Saturday.

With a win in their semifinal match, the Vaqueros would advance to the championship match at 4 p.m. and would qualify for the 3A State Tournament, which will be held Nov. 12-13 at Hug.

For a large municipal facility like the indoor-outdoor Fernley Swimming Pool located at 300 Cottonwood Lane, a complete ground-up commercial build or major structural renovation typically spans 6 to 12 months or longer when factoring in large-scale engineering, public municipal permitting, specialized commercial HVAC/roofing, and health department inspections. The current renovation has been- The Fernley Swimming Pool has been closed for approximately six to seven months since late February 2026 for a major roof replacement and facility renovation. Now you sat October. Soooo 8 months for a new roof. The picture shows no other renovations. It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows. It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities. I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
