One person in custody as officials investigate fire in Highlands area

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a home on Smithridge Lane Friday afternoon.

According to North Lyon County Fire Protection District public information officer Jim Sullivan, the call of a fire at 1965 Smithridge Lane came in at 4:08 p.m. Friday. Units from North Lyon Fire, the Fallon Churchill Fire Department, Central Lyon County Fire District and REMSA responded to the scene.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion but was able to return to duty.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing. One person was taken into custody on a mental health hold, but Lyon County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Bixby said he does not know if that was related to the fire. Nobody has been arrested on charges related to the fire, he said.

This story will be updated when more information is available.

Editor's note: This story was updated at 1:56 p.m. to clarify the details about the person taken into custody.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
