The Fernley girls cross country team won its annual Roadhill Invitational meet last Tuesday, March 16, while the boys team lost by a point to Elko.

Elko, Dayton, Fallon, Yerington, and Virginia City attended the meet, but only Elko and Fernley had scoring teams. The Fernley girls had all five of their scoring runners finish in the top nine to beat the Elko girls, while the boys lost to Elko by a point.

Dustin Boutell was the top runner for the Fernley boys, finishing fifth with a time of 20:06. Kutoven Stevens of Yerington was the individual winner with a time of 17:17.

“Dustin Boutell once again ran well, he PRed on this course from last year’s meet by over 30 seconds,” Fernley coach Todd Wright said. “On the girls’ side, two freshman, Laila Kinnick and Amaya Nichols ran tough races especially after working through some knee issues.”

Myla Bott was the top finisher for Fernley, in second place with a time of 25:20. Reese Hatch of Elko won the race with a time of 24:42.
