LCSD to welcome back students full-time Monday

LCSD to welcome back students full-time Monday

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Starting Monday, Cohort A and B are no longer for Lyon County students.

The attest directives by Governor Steve Sisolak issued Feb. 14 and Feb. 17 will allow the school district to bring back students for full-time in-person learning, Superintendent Wayne Workman told the district’s Board of Trustees Tuesday night. The District sent a notice to staff and parents on Feb. 19 about the change.

Tuesday, Workman said Sisolak’s directives allowing the capacity of buses to be increased from 33 percent to 66 percent is the biggest change that allows students to come back to school full time. It will allow about 50 students per bus now, as opposed to just 25 before.

“That was the biggest prohibitive factor,” Workman said.

He said about 28 or 29 percent of the district’s students have chosen to remain on full-time distance learning for the remainder of the school year. A few who were on distance learning will be returning to school, while some who were in the hybrid cohorts have opted to switch to distance learning.

“We’ll be able to have all who wish to be in person full-time every day,” Workman said.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
