Victim identified as Sparks man in fatal I-80 crash Saturday

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Sparks man as the person who was killed in a single-vehicle accident Saturday morning on Interstate 80 east of Sparks.

According to the NHP, Luis Aguilar-Hurtado, 56, died when his truck rolled off the highway.

Troopers responded to the crash at 9:15 a.m. Saturday on I-80 at mile marker 63 east of Fernley. Their investigation shows that Aguilar-Hurtado was driving eastbound in a silver 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck on I-80 at speeds too fast for the icy conditions, and the pickup went off the roadway and overturned, coming to rest on its roof. He was declared dead at the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) - NHP Case #201200744.
