Fernley High put on precautionary lockdown after threat

Fernley High put on precautionary lockdown after threat

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

Fernley High School was put on a precautionary lockdown Wednesday afternoon after the office received an anonymous threat, but the lockdown was lifted and students were allowed to leave school as normal after law enforcement was unable to verify the threat.

The FHS office received the phone call after noon Wednesday, which the Lyon County School District said was anonymous and ambiguous, alleging possible harmful action against the school. School administration immediately notified local law enforcement, who was on scene immediately. Administration also immediately placed the school on a precautionary lockdown. Class instruction proceeded as normal and the district said students and staff were safe and secure.

FHS was released from the lockdown shortly before 1:30 p.m., when school normally releases. Law enforcement was able to immediately come to the school upon notification from FHS and determined it was safe to have the students leave. Deputies were present while students were leaving and the district says there has been no evidence to show there was any validity to the call.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
