Veterans Coalition seeking donations for Wreaths Across America

Veterans Coalition seeking donations for Wreaths Across America

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

For the last six years, the Nevada Veterans Coalition has been able to place a wreath on every grave at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery as part of the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony.

But with the restrictions due to COVID-19 forcing the cancellation of its fundraisers this year, doing it again is going to be a challenge. Without fundraisers, the coalition this year is relying on donations in order to purchase the more than 8,700 wreaths needed.

“With over 8,700 veterans interred to date, this makes it more difficult to reach our goal,” Veterans Coalition public information officer Tom Draughon said. “We need your help more than ever this year as your donations will allow us to reach our goal.”

This year’s ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, to honor the veterans who gave at least a portion of their life to serve our country and are buried or interred in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Each wreath costs the coalition $15, and for every two they purchase, they receive a third one for free. That means the coalition needs to purchase almost 6,000 wreaths, which cost almost $90,000.

Donations may be made by going to NNVC.ORG and click on the wreath icon, by mail to NVC, P.O. Box 415, Fernley, NV 89408 or through PayPal.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
