Man arrested after throwing weighted disc through glass window at Fernley substation

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

A man was arrested Wednesday after he threatened a secretary and threw a weighted disc through a glass window at the Fernley substation, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported.

LCSO Lt. Pete Spinuzzi said a man later identified as Rick Leon, 38, of Fernley entered the Fernley substation at about 3:05 p.m. and walked up to the counter, which is protected by a glass window. Spinuzzi said when the secretary asked the man how she could help him, he responded in a threatening manner as to what he could do to her, then threw a five-pound weighted disc through the glass and walked out.

The disc narrowly missed the secretary, who was showered with shards of broken glass and other debris, causing minor injuries.

Deputies found Leon nearby, and he was arrested on multiple charges and taken to the Lyon County Jail in Yerington.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
