School meals now available only by pickup

School meals now available only by pickup
Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

In an attempt to comply with Governor Steve Sisolak’s stricter guidelines, the Lyon County school District will no longer be delivering meals to school bus stops.

Instead, beginning Monday, April 13, food packets will be available for pick up on Mondays and Wednesdays at select locations throughout the county. Food will be distributed at the designated school locations from 9–10 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday.

The food distributed will no longer be one breakfast and one lunch and will instead contain food for multiple days. The food will be distributed in a similar way to the drive-thru style that the Boys & Girls Club provided this week. Any child 18 years or younger is eligible for a meal.

All school facilities and offices are closed to the public, including playgrounds, fields, gymnasiums, outdoor recreation areas, etc.

For the safety of the children, staff and the community, the District asks at everyone practice social distancing when picking up food and to not congregate at the food pick-up locations.
