School district implores parents to respond to communication from teachers

School district implores parents to respond to communication from teachers

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

While many students may already feel like they’re on an extended spring break, given that schools have been closed since schools statewide have been closed for the past two weeks, Lyon County School District superintendent Wayne Workman implored parents Wednesday to make sure they are responding to communication from teachers at least once a week.

Lyon County schools will be on Spring Break next week, but when school resumes Monday, April 13, distance learning will continue because schools will remain closed, per a declaration by Governor Steve Sisolak Wednesday that schools are to remain closed until April 30.

Meanwhile, Workman thanked those parents who are helping their children work with their teachers and schools through the distance learning process.

“It is imperative that students and families respond to the communication from your teachers at least one time each week so that we can ensure each day counts as a school day towards the required 180,” Workman said. “Your teachers and schools remain available for communication during normal school hours.”

Schools will be closed completely beginning Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10 for the previously scheduled spring break. However, the breakfast and lunch meals that have been being delivered to students will not be provided during spring break. This service will resume at strategic locations throughout our communities beginning Monday, April 13, 2020.

Parents and students can check the district’s website at www.lyoncsd.org or call their school if they have questions.
