Investigation ongoing into source of bomb threat at Fernley Justice Court

Investigation ongoing into source of bomb threat at Fernley Justice Court

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

An investigation is being conducted to try to find the course of a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of Fernley's Canal Township Justice Court and the closure of several surrounding streets Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Pete Spinuzzi of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Fernley Justice Court received to phone calls reporting that there were possible bombs in the Justice Court building.

LCSO, the Nevada Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies responded, evacuating the building and setting up a secured perimeter. Main St. was closed from the roundabout to the intersection of U.S. 95A while the building was searched. No evidence of a bomb was found, and the calls were determined to be unfounded. The roads and building were reopened shortly before noon and allowed to resume business as usual.

Spinuzzi said the FBI responded to conduct the investigation and was instrumental in helping with the search and investigation.

The threat was one of several that have been received throughout the county in recent weeks, including one at Dayton High School and a threat against the Dayton water system, all of which were determined to be false.

“We always have to address them as if they’re real and take the appropriate precautions,” Spinuzzi said.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
