15 Nevada unclaimed veterans to receive military funeral

The Nevada Veterans Coalition will conduct its 19th mission of the Missing in Nevada Project at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery [NNVMC] by honoring 15 veterans whose remains have been in the care of a local mortuary, yet remained unclaimed.

Services will be conducted with full military honors for the following 15 veterans at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept 13, 2019 at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, in Fernley.

  • Robert Shields (1905-1986) served in the US Army 30 Jan 1943 - 17 Sep 1945 WWII TEC 4
  • Samuel Shimkus (1915-1984) served in the US Army 29 Oct 1941 - 20 Sep 1945 WWII
  • Peter Sigrist (1912-1987) served in the US Army 21 Apr 1941 - 31 Dec 1942 WWII
  • Lou Silva (1902-1980) served in the US Army 30 Jul 1942 - 25 Jun 1945 WWII
  • Orville Silvers (1924-1988) served in the US Army 11 Feb 1943 - 01 Feb 1946 WWII TEC 5
  • Maurice Slechta (1912-1979) served in the US Army 29 Dec 1942 - 18 Jul 1945 WWII T/SGT
  • Albert Smithler (1911-1985) served in the US Navy 05 Apr 1944 - 21 Dec 1945 WWII PHM3
  • Henry Stinton (1894-1984) served in the US Army 28 Mar 1918 - 23 May 1919 WWI
  • Andrew Stokes (1925-1990) served in the US Navy 24 Mar 1944 - 30 Dec 1945 WWII
  • Clifford Suits (1895-1985) served in the US Army 22 Jun 1917 - 29 Mar 1919 WWI
  • William Sullivan (1920-1991) served in the US Army 16 Jan 1942 - 09 Sep 1952 WWII/Korea CPL/Purple Heart
  • Leota Tracy (1919-1987) served in the US Army 08 Sep 1943 - 24 Dec 1945 WWII CPL
  • Phillip Vahey (1914-1979) served in the US Navy 25 May 1942 - 20 May 1947 WWII LYJG
  • Angelo Volpicelli (1911-1983) served in the US Air Force 12 Jan 1940 - 12 Oct 1945 WWII
  • George Wada (1915-1986) served in the US Army 29 Jul 1943 - 31 Aug 1965 WWII/Korea/Vietnam SGT with PH/BSM

Government officials, the public and media are invited to attend.
