Fernley’s Tyler Roemer, who recently signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent, was presented with the key to the city at the July 3 meeting of the Fernley City Council.

Mayor Roy Edgington read a proclamation honoring Roemer for his contribution to the city of Fernley and for his public service.

Roemer is the first Fernley High School graduate to reach the NFL. He played two seasons at San Diego St. as the first Fernley graduate to receive a Division I football scholarship straight out of high school.

Roemer was scheduled to report for the first day of the Raiders training camp July 23 at their Napa Valley Training Complex. The first full team practice is July 27 and the Raiders are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Rams in their first preseason game Aug. 10.

The Raiders will be featured on this year’s edition of HBO’s Hard Knocks, which will debut Aug. 6.
