Fernley man charged with firing gun at vehicle

Fernley man charged with firing gun at vehicle

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

A Fernley man was arrested Wednesday on assault charges after Nevada Highway Patrol troopers charged that he shot at another vehicle.

At 6:06 a.m. Wednesday, NHP troopers were dispatched to U.S. 50, approximately 30 miles east of Fallon, for a road rage incident involving two motorists. It was reported the driver of a gray Scion sedan fired a handgun at another vehicle.

Troopers located the gray Scion and initiated a traffic stop on U.S., west of Austin.

The driver was identified as Peter Lester, 29, of Fernley. After an investigation with the assistance of Churchill County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Department of Public Safety Investigation Division, Lester was arrested and charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. He was booked into the Churchill County jail.

While no one was injured during this incident, the Nevada Highway Patrol is reminding motorists that road rage can often have serious or sometimes deadly results. If you observe a motorist driving aggressively, contact the Nevada Highway Patrol by dialing *NHP from your mobile device. Do not attempt to handle the situation by yourself.
