NHP investigating fatal crash on US 50A in Fernley

Robert Perea, The Fernley Reporter

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in which a Fallon man was killed last Friday.

According to the NHP, Hector Luis Reyes, 67, was killed when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle attempting to turn onto the highway.

On Friday April 19 at approximately 4:09 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on US 50A at the intersection with Desert Rose in Fernley involving two vehicles.

NHP reports that its preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2009 Cadillac SUV was traveling northbound on Desert Rose approaching the intersection with US-50A, preparing to make a left turn. A blue 1990 Dodge sedan driven by Reyes was traveling eastbound on US 50A in the right-hand travel lane approaching the intersection with Desert Rose. The silver Cadillac SUV proceeded onto US 50A to make the left turn, striking the front of the Reyes’ Dodge sedan. The sedan was redirected in a northeasterly direction and came to rest blocking the right-hand lane and right shoulder of US 50A westbound. The silver Cadillac came to rest in the right-hand lane of US-50A eastbound.

Reyes was pronounced dead a short time later at an area hospital.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking additional witnesses to this crash. If you were a witness to this incident, or have any information regarding this collision, please contact Trooper Max Davis of the Nevada Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) at 775-687-9618 or [email protected].
