Veterans Coalition to conduct 16th Missing in Nevada ceremony

Two World War I veterans will be among 19 honored as the Nevada Veterans Coalition conducts its 16th mission of the Missing in Nevada project at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery [NNVMC] by honoring 19 veterans whose remains have been in the care of a local mortuary, yet remained unclaimed.

Services will be conducted with full military honors for the following 19 veterans at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, in Fernley Nevada.

Those being honored are:

  • Albert Hodson (1895-1973) served in the US ARMY 15 Nov 1917-29 Jan 1919 WWI
  • Charles Knebel (1921-1985) served in the US NAVY 18 Jun 1943-06 Jan 1946 WWII
  • Franklin La Fave (1916-1985) served in the US ARMY 28 Oct 1942-15 Dec 1946 WWII
  • Monte La Fleche (1906-1983) served in the US ARMY 3 Jul 1943-3 Apr 1944 WWII
  • Herschel Landreth (1917-1981) served in the US NAVY 12 Sep 1939-03 Jun 1946 WWII
  • Marx Law (1902-1981) served in the US ARMY 30 Oct 1942-22 Jan 1943 WWII
  • George Lax (1920-1985) served in the US ARMY 28 Apr 1942-06 Dec 1945 WWII
  • Lewis Lee (1894-1987) served in the US ARMY 29 Apr 1918-19 May 1919 WWI
  • Wallace Livingston (1911-1987) served in the US ARMY 29 Oct 1941-05 Aug 1949 WWII
  • Frank Loichinger (1921-1985) served in the US ARMY 04 Jun 1942-28 Sept 1945 WWII
  • Wilson Luhman (1918-1986) served in the US NAVY 10 May 1944-31 Jan 1946 WWII
  • Lloyd Markle (1913-1985) served in the US ARMY 26 May 1931-27 Nov 1945 WWII
  • Carl Marks (1920-1979) served in the US ARMY 10 Aug 1942-21 Feb 1946 WWII
  • Ardis Mastre (1924-1985) served in the US ARMY 11 Jun 1943-19 Nov 1945 WWII
  • Doyle May (1924-2008) served in the US NAVY 25 May 1941-18 Nov 1945 WWII

For a large municipal facility like the indoor-outdoor Fernley Swimming Pool located at 300 Cottonwood Lane, a complete ground-up commercial build or major structural renovation typically spans 6 to 12 months or longer when factoring in large-scale engineering, public municipal permitting, specialized commercial HVAC/roofing, and health department inspections. The current renovation has been- The Fernley Swimming Pool has been closed for approximately six to seven months since late February 2026 for a major roof replacement and facility renovation. Now you sat October. Soooo 8 months for a new roof. The picture shows no other renovations. It smells like sewage and it can be bad enough that people don’t want to be outside or open their windows. It would be helpful to get an investigative journalist help the Fernley residents get a clear answer from the City, NDEP, and any involved facilities. I was really disappointed that the smell was not disclosed by my realtor when I moved here. I enjoy Fernley and am seeing the improvements that are being made.
