Fernley soccer teams start regional tournament Thursday

For the second consecutive season, the Fernley High School boys soccer team has earned the No. 1 seed from the Northern 3A B League for this week’s Northern Region Tournament.

For a reward, they have to play on their opponent’s home field.

The Vaqueros, who swept through the league schedule unbeaten at 10-0, will face the A League No. 5 seed South Tahoe at 5 p.m. Thursday. South Tahoe finished 9-8-1 in the A League.

The winner will face the winner of the first round game between Sparks (A League No. 2) and Yerington (B League No. 2) Friday at 2 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at noon.

The Fernley girls at the B League No. 3 seed, and will face South Tahoe, the A League No. 1 seed, at 3 p.m. Thursday. The winner plays Friday at 4 p.m. against North Tahoe or North Valleys, and the championship game is Saturday at 2 p.m.
