The Plaza Party took Fernley by storm last Saturday (May 19) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Touch of Paradise, the event featured Hawaiian food, face painting and music by Biggest Little Radio. The other participating businesses included BFF Aesthetics and The Salon.

Priscilla Tarr, the owner of bff Aesthetics is a former bridge crewmember with the U.S.Army corps of engineers. She moved to Nevada about 8 years ago and has lived in Fernley for 2 years. Prior to opening her own business, she worked for a surgeon in Reno.

“I want both men and women to feel more beautiful whether through makeup or by simply enhancing their own natural beauty,” Tarr said.

BFF Aesthetics services include microblading which enhances and contours eyebrows, facials (even beard facials for men), facial peels, tinting of the brows and eye lashes, microdermabrasion and waxing of all kinds.

The owner of The Salon, Kate Stix, has lived in Fernley for 25 years and her salon has been open for 4.

“I've been doing hair for 38 years. The shop is comfortable, fun, very inviting, and everyone is friendly," Stix said. "We do a little bit of everything including hair, nails, eyelashes and waxing. We also take care of men”

Touch of Paradise is unique in that it not only includes massages, but also the Art Indeed Gallery. Recently opened by Rachel McCoy, Touch of Paradise features various types of massages, aromatherapy, wet sauna, iodized foot detox baths, hot scalp treatments, salt scrubs and although not showing at the Plaza Party she also sells handmade, one of a kind jewelry and CBD oils.

Born in Utah, McCoy has lived in Fernley since 2004, graduated from Fernley High School and was formally trained at the Ralston School of Massage in Reno. Previously, McCoy worked in another salon that had an art gallery so she knew she wanted one in her business too.

The event was attended by many Fernley citizens, including Mayor Roy Edgington.

Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.Comment publication date: 5/7/26, 10:26 AMComment source: Storey County, Tesla partner to extend I-80 Patrick on-rampComment author: Alan ReederComment text: Great guy, laughed easily, had fun with his students, enjoyed our time together at FHS!Comment publication date: 4/23/26, 10:23 PMComment source: Howard David JacksonComment author: Jack & Nancy CookComment text: Wonderful man.
