The Fernley Reporter
The Fernley 4th of July committee is looking for volunteers to help with various activities of this year’s event.
Volunteers are needed in the free kids/family area, as well as in the fireworks sector and the parade.
The event begins with Mason’s pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. at the Mason Lodge at 40 West St. The cost is $7 per person for $25 per family and all donations go to fund high school scholarships.
The parade down Main St. starts at 10 a.m., from Locust to 7th St.
Kids games start at noon at the Out of Town Park, included water balloon toss, sack races and more.
The flag raising will be held at 1 p.m., and a horseshoe tournament also starts at 1.
Parade trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m.; the watermelon eating contest starts at 3 p.m. and the raffle starts at 4 p.m. with a new drawing every 15 minutes until prizes are gone, with the grand prize drawing at 6:30 p.m. A greased pig contest starts at 5 p.m., then live music begins at 6, to keep the crowd entertained until the fireworks at dusk.
To volunteer with the family area, call Jennifer Young at (775) 722-7298, or to help with the fireworks or the parade, call Cathy at (775) 750-7163.

Comment text: Maybe there is more to this story than what is reported, but it seems to me that the businesses that are causing this problem ought to be paying for this, or at least a major portion of it. Why does the County have to pay the whole bill? Just my opinion.
