The Fernley High School track teams had several athletes post strong results during a busy period featuring four meets within a period of eight days in the last two weeks.
Most recently, the girls team finished 11th overall at last Saturday’s Carson Invitational with 26 points, while the boys were 16th with six team points
The best individual performance for the Vaqueros was by Riana Allred, 100 hurdles, placing second with a time of 16.98. Samantha Manning finished sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 62.76 and Brittney Gaitan placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 11 inches, and seventh in the discus with a throw of 100-6.
For the boys, Aaron Proctor placed seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 11.46, while Nicholas Bernardo finished seventh in the 110 hurdles in 16.06.
Both teams finished second in the Conclave of Awesomeness in Fallon on April 18, the girls with 80.5 points, one point behind Fallon, and the boys with 60.5 points, while Fallon finished first with 111.
Individually, Bernardo won the 110 hurdles in 15.99, with Daniel Clark third in 17.77. Bernardo also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 36-11.
Cooper Henderson took second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.67, with Noah Osterman fourth in 11.74.
In the 400 meters, Henderson finished fourth with a personal record of 58.81, Jaden Wilson was fourth in 59.08, Clark finished fifth with his personal record of 1:00.72 and Shawn Gleason came in sixth with his personal record of 1:01.36.
In the 800 meters, Antonio Rodarte placed second in 2:17.70, with teammates Mason Tanehill fourth, Carson Humes fifth, Corbin Mulei sixth, Eric Rosales seventh, Logan Kibbe eighth and Ricky Starr, ninth, with Liam Maldonado 11th and Hayden Krupp 12th.
Tyler Egan also had a second finish in the pole vault at 9-6 and Rodarte placed third in the 1600.
For the girls, Gaitan won the shot put with a mark of 33-8 and was third in the discus at 89-11.
Emma Parsons placed second in the pole vault at 7-0, and fourth in the long jump at 14-3.5.
In the high jump, Karli Burns placed third and Ellie Kingston fourth, both with marks of 4-6, while Burns finished second in the 100 hurdles in 18.59.
In the discus, Reyane Murchison placed second with a personal record throw of 90-10, and Celeste Condie was third in the 400 in 1:07.34.
In the 1600 meters, Janae Derley finished second in 6:00.44, Parker O’Brien was third in 6:34.02 and Baylee Ringer came in fourth in 6:38.53.
In the 800 meters, Piper Crook won with a time of 2:34.38, Derley finished second in 2:37.74 and Olivia Schrock was third in 2:42.22.
The boys team won the Fernley Invitational on April 13 with 139 points, while the girls finished second with 120 points, behind Elko with 193.
Individual winners for the girls were Samantha Manning, first in the 800 with a time of 2:33.21, Piper Crook in the 1600 in 5:30.68, Riana Allred in the 100 hurdles at 17.42, and Gaitan in the shot put with a throw of 35-5.
The boys team had a host of second place finishes. Bernardo was the only individual winner, in the 110 hurdles with his personal record of 15.89.
Some members of the team also competed in the Northwest Invite at McQueen on Aril 14, where the boys finished tied for 16th and the girls 17th.
